We invite you to participate in the workshop ‘Hammer and Fire’, a learning and hands-on experience centered on hammering, one of the main techniques used to work metals in Pre-Columbian jewelry. This technique was used to create metal sheets by hammering the material on flat surfaces and then cutting, shaping, and texturing precious and semi-precious metals intended for personal adornments and ceremonial objects.
Throughout the workshop, participants will explore forms and textures in metal pieces using hammers, dapping tools, and fire. Through these processes, they will create unique patterns and apply them to a pendant or medallion made during the session.
Workshop facilitator: Emilia Pallares
Jewelry is the medium through which Emilia, an architect and designer passionate about craftsmanship, expresses her ideas by exploring forms and transforming metal. Her pieces celebrate the beauty and trace of handmade work and go beyond adornment: they accompany everyday life, celebrate individuality, and commemorate special moments.
